The historic Boone County Courthouse had outgrown its original structure, so Prost Builders was hired to construct an addition that blended with the original Classic Revival building. The addition consisted of a new Courthouse Annex that was connected to the existing Courthouse by a glass walkway. The Courthouse also received a complete historic restoration and renovation As they updated the building for modern court services. Prost Builders utilized their expertise as the area’s premier historical restoration experts to ensure the Annex addition would not conflict with the original courthouse design.

We handle all types of government construction in Columbia, Jefferson City, and Central Missouri. Our work includes K-12 public schools, university buildings, state office facilities, courthouses, municipal buildings, community centers, athletic facilities, and historic government building restoration. We serve state agencies, school districts, city and county governments, and federal facilities.

How does Prost Builders save taxpayer money on government construction projects?

We use proven value engineering to reduce costs without cutting quality. Our approach saved Columbia Public Schools $365,000 on Jefferson Middle School through innovative concrete solutions that also cut three months from the schedule. As a general contractor who self-performs concrete and carpentry work, we control budgets better than contractors who subcontract everything. Our team includes in-house professional engineers who find cost-saving solutions throughout construction.

Does Prost Builders have experience with historic government building restoration in Central Missouri?

Yes. Few Missouri contractors match our experience restoring government landmarks. Our portfolio includes the State Capitol building in Jefferson City (six historic restoration projects including the stained glass laylight valued at $17.3 million), Jesse Hall at University of Missouri in Columbia, Boone County Courthouse, Truman State University’s Kirk Building in Kirksville, and Mark Twain’s boyhood home in Hannibal. We preserve historical character while upgrading systems and meeting modern accessibility standards.

Can Prost Builders handle occupied school renovations and phased government construction?

Absolutely. We specialize in phased construction that keeps government facilities operational. At Southern Boone County Middle School, we completed extensive renovations over summers and school breaks without interrupting classes. We’ve managed multiple occupied school renovations with firm academic deadlines. Our team coordinates carefully to minimize disruption while maintaining safety for building occupants.

What makes Prost Builders qualified for government contracting work in the Columbia and Jefferson City area?

We bring 75 years of experience serving Central Missouri government agencies. Our employee-owned company has registered professional engineers on staff for technical oversight. How long do government construction projects typically take with Prost Builders?

Project timelines depend on scope and complexity. Our Jefferson Middle School $11 million addition took 16 months. We provide realistic schedules during preconstruction planning and use our systematic approach to keep government projects on track. Our value engineering often accelerates timelines while reducing costs.

How much does government building construction cost in Central Missouri?

Government construction costs vary by project type, size, and complexity. Educational facilities typically run differently than office buildings or historic restorations. The best approach is to discuss your specific project with our team. We provide detailed budget validation during preconstruction and find opportunities to reduce costs through value engineering.
